Profiles

A profile is a complete HyperSwitcher setup. Switching profiles applies the new shortcuts and behavior immediately.

What changes with a profile

Each profile keeps its own:

app shortcuts, Finder destination shortcuts, Shortcut Groups, both window-cycle shortcuts, and the Back and Forward shortcuts;
Hyper key authority, physical key, and modifier choice;
app, window, and temporary-shortcut behavior;
Quick Layout, Workspaces, Layout action key, resize grid, gaps, appearance, and Tidy Up settings;
focus flash, reopened-window placement, and precise-focus choices;
Experimental Shortcut Replay setting.

Your license, login item, Dock preference, onboarding state, command-line installation, and anonymous telemetry identity are shared. Each Mac also remembers its own active-profile choice.

Live Workspace sessions are not stored in a profile. Switching profiles ends them.

Switch profiles

Choose a profile from Menu bar → Profile. In Settings, right-click Active Profile at the top of the sidebar to see every profile; the active one has a checkmark. Choose another to switch immediately, or click Active Profile normally to open Manage Profiles…. To switch from Shortcuts, Stream Deck, or a script, create a profile action in Settings → Automation.

Create or edit a profile

Open Menu bar → Profile → Manage Profiles…, or use the Active Profile row in Settings:

Duplicate Selected Profile copies the current behavior, which is best for a small variation.
New Empty Profile starts from HyperSwitcher’s defaults.

Select a profile to activate it. Double-click its name to rename it in the list; press Return to save or Escape to cancel. Use the edit button to change its name and icon. You can delete any profile as long as one remains.

Switch profiles automatically

On a Mac laptop, Manage Profiles… also includes Automatic Profile Switching. Turn on Switch Profiles automatically, then choose one Profile for External display connected and another for Built-in display only.

HyperSwitcher applies the matching Profile when it launches and when the display condition changes. If you switch Profiles manually, your choice remains active until that condition changes or HyperSwitcher relaunches. Display changes that leave the condition unchanged do not replace your manual choice.

If an assigned Profile is deleted, HyperSwitcher does not switch to it. Manage Profiles… keeps the assignment and shows an orange inline warning so you can choose another Profile; it does not send a notification. The automatic assignments stay on that Mac rather than in the settings file.

All profiles live in the same settings file. To move them together to another Mac, follow Back up or move your settings.
