Shortcut Groups

A Shortcut Group puts several related apps behind one key.

In Settings → Apps, choose New Shortcut Group, record a shortcut, then add the apps in switching order. New groups start with Cycle through → All apps. You can choose Running apps instead. Existing groups keep their saved choice. Changes save automatically.

Running apps focuses the first running member when used from outside the group. Repeat the shortcut to move through running members in order, wrapping around after the last. Closed apps are skipped. When no apps are open lets you choose whether to do nothing or open one member when the entire group is closed.

All apps moves through every member in the order you configured, focusing running apps and opening closed apps when reached. From outside the group, it starts with the first member. If a member is already focused, it advances to the next and wraps around after the last. Pressing again while an app is opening advances to the next member.

When no apps are open appears only for Running apps. Switching to All apps keeps that choice saved for when you switch back.

When it enters an app, the group uses your Settings → General → App switching choice to pick a window. Groups can move between displays, but they do not limit their members to the display under the pointer.

A group moves between apps without cycling through windows inside the current app, regardless of General → Window switching. Give an app its own app shortcut and choose Follow pointer or Cycle all windows if you also want repeat presses to move through that app’s windows.

An app can keep its own shortcut and belong to several groups as long as the keys differ.

For an additional shortcut to open or focus one app, create a group containing only that app and choose All apps. You can put the same app in more than one group with different shortcuts. These group shortcuts follow the group behavior above, including keeping the current window on repeat presses.

In the Apps list, an app in one group shows Go to Shortcut Group. An app in several groups shows a Shortcut Groups menu with the group count. Each menu item shows the group name and shortcut, or No shortcut assigned. Choose an item to open that group’s editor.

Grouped apps show these group controls in place of the shortcut recorder in the list. An existing app shortcut remains active; open the app’s detail page to view, change, or remove it.
